Dear International Council Member,

We are delighted that our 2024 Spring Meeting will be held in Vienna and Venice from May 4 – 12, with five nights in Vienna and three in Venice. At the very beginning of our trip, there will also be a day’s optional excursion to Brno in the Czech Republic, a 2 ½ hour drive, to see Villa Tugendhat designed by Mies van der Rohe.

Our most sincere thanks are extended to Council members Jo Carole Lauder, Sylvia Liska, Beatrix and Gregor Medinger, and Stephanie Schmidt-Chiari who are among those helping us develop the program in Vienna. In Venice, Rosi Kahane and Giulia Foscari Widmann Rezzonico and Philip Oetker are among the planners.

Highlights in Vienna will include a concert by the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Riccardo Muti at the Musikverein; a performance by the Schoenberg choir at the church am Steinhof; great museums including the Kunsthistorisches Museum, the Belvedere, the Secession, the Albertina, MAK, the newly renovated Wien Museum; and a sampling of the architecture by masters including Josef Hoffmann, Adolf Loos, and Otto Wagner. Talks by expert speakers are being planned throughout our program, including Joseph Koerner, the Victor S. Thomas Professor of the History of Art and Architecture and Professor of Germanic Languages and Literatures, and Chair of the Department of History of Art and Architecture at Harvard University; and Peter Reed, former Senior Deputy Director for Curatorial Affairs and Curator in the Department of Architecture and Design at MoMA, and now an honorary member of the Council.

In Venice, we will focus on the 2024 art Biennale and the city’s magnificent art and architecture. (Please note that the vernissage for the Biennale will have taken place earlier in April.)

The cost of the trip will be $9,900 per person in Vienna, and $4,850 in Venice, plus hotel. The excursion to Brno will be an additional $250. A non-refundable deposit of $3,500 for Vienna and/or $2,000 for Venice is required by December 4, 2023 in order to reserve your place on the trip. Full payment will be required by February 15.
